I’m ecstatic to have completed my internship at TGS PenielStephensChartered_Accountants!

I’m grateful for the invaluable experience and the opportunity to grow. Without a specific assigned department, I worked, mainly, on audit and tax projects. Amidst developing my knowledge in audit and tax practices, I took pleasure in managing, processing, and sending clients’ files to their various offices, on behalf of assigned Associates and Managers, harnessing my communication skill.

Summary of experiences
I. Prepared trio reconciliation statements (Bank statement, MOMO statement, and Cash Book) using spreadsheet integrative systems for quality audits.
II. Registered and processed VAT on behalf of clients.
III. Filed tax returns for clients
IV. Utilized Zoho books for transaction tracking.
V. Conducted independent audit of clients’ financial statements while been skeptical.
VI. Performed clerical tasks (managing records, typing, printing and scanning of documents, binding, etc.).

Providing an excellent and quality work for these functions demanded pertinent soft skills. I honed on critical_thinking, teamwork, and demonstrated a curious_mindset to achieve my goal of producing a quality work. Some tasks were challenging, but the tendency to push through with a calm and critical mindset kept me moving.

I would have found it difficult to believe the impact of accounting firms until I became an intern at TGS PenielStephens, an ‘A’ accounting firm recognized by ICAG. This experience made me realize that there is always more to be done every day. Professionalism, Entrepreneurship, Nimbleness, Integrity, Excellence, and Leadership (Peniel) were the hallmarks of my journey.

I began with tasks such as bank reconciliations, scanning and printing documents, filings, and cheque deposits, all while honing my attention to detail. I had the opportunity to file taxes and work on VAT, as well as some experience with PAYE. Special thanks to Michael for helping me appreciate the audit assertions and processes, focusing on cash and bank, fixed assets and depreciation, and general administrative expenses, as we visited clients. This ignited my leadership spirit and motivated me to learn.

Being the audit season, I had the chance to move between GRA offices, filing for extensions, and exploring new places, all while upholding the integrity of the organization. It was during this time that I truly resonated with our manager’s quote: “PUSH YOURSELF: no one will do it for you.” I committed myself fully, not limiting my focus to one area but striving to understand all aspects of the work to make informed decisions in the future.

This experience has significantly deepened my understanding of accounting, auditing, and taxation, and I am eager to apply these skills in my future endeavors.
